Lest We Forget: Huxlow’s Poppies Project to mark Remembrance Day

We would like to thank all our students and staff for their commitment to Remembrance Day throughout the week.

On Sunday 8th November 2015, Huxlow’s Head Boy, Tom Betts, Deputy Head Boy, Cameron Barber and Deputy Head Girl, Beth Fisher represented the College at the Remembrance Day Service and Parade at St Peter’s Church, Irthlingborough. They laid a wreath on our behalf at the Irthlingborough War Memorial, supported by Mr S Gordon, Headteacher and Mrs L Gauvrit, Assistant Headteacher.

Discussions during Tutor Time and PSHE helped us all to understand the importance of Remembrance, and everyone observed the silence very respectfully on Wednesday 11th.

On Friday, we completed the Huxlow Poppies Project, where each and every student was invited to add their own personalised poppy to one of our four giant wreaths. They will now be displayed in the main Hall. Thank you to Mr I Lewis, Learning Leader for Humanities for co-ordinating this.

“We asked students to reflect on the sacrifices soldiers and their families have made over the last one hundred years to maintain our freedoms. The students showed great maturity when putting the wreaths together and the finished work looks fantastic.”
