Huxlow students cast their votes in mock General Election

As part of our Citizenship commitment at Huxlow, a Mock General Election was held on Thursday 8 June. Students heard about some of the key points from each party’s manifesto in assemblies and followed this up with further research during tutor time.

On the day, students and staff cast their votes in a secret ballot in the Library. Members of the sixth form became Polling Officers for the day, supervising the voting process and counting the votes. “We aim to show all our students that voting is fun and accessible, encouraging them to become active citizens” said Mrs J Holmes, Head of Sixth Form.

The outcome of Huxlow’s election was markedly different to that of the General Election with results as follows:

  • Labour: 268 votes, 50% share
  • Green Party: 145 votes, 27% share
  • Conservatives: 110 votes, 20% share
  • Liberal Democrats: 18 votes, 3% share
