Huxlow students thank local business 'Higgins' for donation of wood to the DT Department

Huxlow Science College DT department have recently run a new project for Year 8 students to design and make a bee and bug house. This project not only teaches them a variety of practical skills, but is also a project that students want to take home and use. Even though this project is excellent, it is expensive as high quality wood is needed for it to be durable outside. Rather than redesigning the project using poor quality wood, our DT Technician Mr Thorley made contact with the builders' merchants ‘Higgins’, based in Irthlingborough, to ask for a donation of materials for the project to be run for the whole of Year 8. They donated over £100 worth of wood specifically to be used for Year 8 students which will dramatically improve the outcomes produced by students.

Miss Campbell and Mr Tufnail took eleven students down to Higgins to hand over cakes and cards they had made to thank them. They also had the chance to show them their work and to explain how they made them. Hopefully the department can make more links with local businesses in the future to enable students to create even better and more challenging projects.
