Providing hot and cold meals at lunch time and snacks at break time, Einstein’s is run by a friendly and enthusiastic team. As part of the College’s commitment to support the health and well-being of all pupils and staff, the provision of a high quality catering service is a priority. Many new food initiatives are offered, all of which comply with the most recent nutritional guidelines.
Theme menus such as Halloween are very popular and the catering team work closely with teachers to support topics in curriculum areas, for example a Spanish day. The cook also involves herself with some of the themed days which take place during the college year. In particular the “Turn Back Time” day where students re-enact a day in the life of students in the Second World War, so the menu is made up of food which would have been eaten then.
Meals are created using fresh produce from local suppliers. Comments received from visitors, staff and students indicate that Einstein’s food service is popular and successful. Healthy options are offered and the team are constantly experimenting with new and interesting recipes.
Einstein’s have been awarded the “Gold Heartbeat Award” which is linked to an environmental inspection on Healthy Food/Healthy Business. We have also been awarded the “Scores on the Doors” Food Hygiene Star Rating where we achieved a 5*. This is also linked to the Heartbeat Award and is for High Standards in compliance of the food safety legislations for robust food safety management.
The kitchen at Huxlow is warm and welcoming and, as all good kitchens should be, a very integral part of the College’s daily life.
